She has featured at Girls On Key and Fresh Voices for Melbourne Spoken Word and been interviewed for 3CR's Spoken Word program. Indrani studied at Presbyterian Girls School in Regent Street. She has one elder sister, Mallika and one younger sister, Iranganie. Her father, Abeypala Perera was a Buddhist and mother, Muriel Perera was a Christian. In August 2020 Indrani ran an online workshop, Promoting Your Poetry, as part of the Melbourne Spoken Word Festival Online. She was born on 15 February in Borella, and is the second of three girls in the family. Indrani was shortlisted for the Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Writing: Open Poetry section and she was the winner of the Elyne Mitchell Writing Awards Bonus Non-Fiction prize. She has also been anthologised by Geelong Writers Inc, Ginninderrra Press and WA Poets Inc. Her poems have been published in Burrow, Cordite, More Than Melanin, Not Very Quiet, Rochford Street Review, The Crow, The Victorian Writer and Teesta Review (India). Her passion is using natural and native Australian materials to make the things she needs.

She is determined to learn as many traditional crafts as she can and also teaches barefoot-shoe-making workshops. Her handmade chapbooks ( Wild Heart and Still:Books) and instant books ( Some Thoughts On Writing a Poem For a Journal and Promote Your Poetry) can be bought in her shop. Indrani is a maker, writer, and explorer. Indrani is the author of many books including two collections of poetry published by Ginninderra Press, Defenestration and pas de deux. She is also the founder of Pocketry, the home of unheard voices where she publishes the Pocketry Almanack and hosts the Pocketry Presents podcast. Indrani Perera is a poet, creator of The Poet's Express e-mail newsletter and a maker of useful things from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia).
